The Sensational Royal Lights

"Preaching the Gospel Through Song"

A Little About Us

Over the years, four members (brothers Arthur. Robert, Leroy and their nephew Terrence) were called home to be with the Lord. But through it all, we never let go of God's hand. In our loss and in gain -- in abundant joy and even in grief, we continue to carry out our mission: "Preaching the Gospel Through Song."

As a part of our ministry, we continue to help churches, individuals, civic organizations, government agencies, and other entities within the various communities across the country.

To date, the group has been blessed with four recordings; We Are The Royal Lights, At The Cross, Stirring Up My Heart and their latest recording entitled, Live from Bangor, Maine. The late, Terrence Jenkins was the writer of several songs on the second and third recordings.

Currently, there are two original members, Frederick Elliott and Tyrome Elliott. The newest singers in the group are nephew, Earl Slacum and Tyrome's son Ryan Elliott. We are blessed with dynamic musicians who are also sold out for the Lord. The band features Robert Kareem Elliott (son of the late Robert Elliott), Everette Young (son of the late Leroy Elliott), William Dunlap, Walter Caldwell, Efrem Hunt, Gregory Hall, Jr. and "Truth".

Freddie Elliott

I was born in Cordtown Maryland with roots from a large, loving Christian home, where honoring the Lord, practicing goodwill and serving the community were works that were put into action. My family practiced these time treasured expressions of love and respect to God and others and at an early age, I dedicated my life to Christ by singing God's praises through songs.

As a graduate of the class of 1963, I attended the public schools in Dorchester County.

After a few years of employment in the local area, I entered the United States Army in 1967 and served until 1969 as a proud member of the 52nd Artillery Unit attached to the Big Red One Induction outfit. My Unit participated in several of the highly visible Vietnam Campaigns during the Vietnam War. As an active member of the Corporal Herman Hughes American Legion Post #87, I have served in positions as the House Chairman, Chaplain and Finance Officer. I also am a member of the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Dorchester County. I am an active member of Union Chapel A.M.E. Church, where I serve as a member of the Trustee Board, Usher Board, Union Chapel Gospel Choir and The Harmonizing Cords.

For over 60 years, I've been singing with the "Lights" and currently serve as the Treasurer for the group. I currently reside in Cambridge, Maryland with my beautiful wife of 46 years, Constance. I have three children — 2 sons and a daughter; 7 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. We all "love the Lord and serve Him with gladness."

Minister Ty Elliott

Of utmost importance is my walk with the Lord. At an early age, I realized that God had a call on my life. After getting tired of trying to run away from the Lord, I took the very important first step of accepting the free gift of salvation that God offers to every man. The four years that followed my salvation experience were the greatest days of my life, but then I became a "lukewarm Christian".

After feeling worn down and empty as a result of a lack of fellowship with God, I rededicated my life to Christ, started working in the church, enrolled in a structured Bible study program at the Baltimore School of the Bible (BSOTB) where I began preparing for the ministry. In 2002, I graduated from BSOTB with top honors and currently am an instructor there, teaching Acts of the Apostles and the Book of Hebrews.

I've been a member of the The Sensational Royal Lights (SRL) for 60 years, also serving as the Business Manager for the group. Along with my brothers, I've traveled throughout the DelMarVa peninsula and many other states "Preaching the Gospel Through Song", quartet style.

I currently resides in Catonsville, Maryland with my lovely wife of 42 years, Sandra. I have two sons, Levone and Ryan (who is also a member of SRL) who live in Baltimore. One daughter, Lauren, lives in Boston, my daughter, Cristi, lives in Atlanta, and one son, Kenneth, lives in Virginia. By God's grace, all of them are saved and love the Lord. ALL PRAISES BE TO GOD!

Earl Slacum

Earl Slacum was born July 28, 1944 in Cambridge, Maryland. He is the son of Frances Fisher and Earl Pinkett. Both parents are deceased. His early religious training came under the direction of his mother and his grandfather Rev. Albert Slacum. His mother sang in church and his grandfather preached the word of God. He grew up in the church and started singing at an early age. He started singing gospel music with a group called the Claiborne Harmonizers under the direction of his stepfather Randolph Elliott.

Earl received his early education in the Talbot County Public School System. He graduated from Robert Moton High School in Easton, Maryland.

After graduating from high school, he received his Bachelor’s degree from Morgan State University and a Master’s degree from Towson State University. He has done post graduate work at Loyola College and The University of Maryland

Earl spent forty years in the field of education as a teacher and administrator. He retired in 2008 after serving four years as the Director of Elementary Schools for the Howard County Public School System. During his tenure, he was awarded the Maryland Council of PTA’s Educator of The Year Award and The Washington Post Distinguished Outstanding leadership Award.

He resides in Severn, Maryland with his lovely wife Rachel. They have been married for fifty years. God has blessed them with two beautiful daughters Terry and Francetta Slacum. Earl and Rachel are members of Columbia Community Church under the leadership of Pastor Reginald Elliott. He is a member of the Men’s Chorus at his church. Earl spends his time studying the Word of God and singing with The Sensational Royal Lights. He has been a member of the Sensational Royal Lights since 2007. The Sensational Royal Lights have been singing for over sixty years and their mission is to carry the Gospel of Christ through songs. To God be the glory.

I've been playing for the up building of God's Kingdom for over 40 years. I started playing for my dad, Arthur Timmons', groups, The Gospel Traveler's and the Traveling Echoes in the mid 70's both groups from Wilmington Delaware. I've been blessed to play on the same services with such groups as The Canton Spirituals, Lee Williams, Mighty Clouds of Joy, Wiiliams Brothers, Doc Mckenzie, Tim Woodson and countless others. I thank God for the gift!
